The Immortals – Chinese Objects from the Collection
September 2017 – 26 November 2017
Revered by the Taoist religion and seen as signs of prosperity and longevity the Eight Immortals are one of the most represented subjects in Chinese decorative arts.
Where: Wolverhampton Art Gallery
In this new exhibition we bring together a fascinating range of objects from the gallery’s own collection to explore the lives, myths and stories of The Eight Immortals, Pa Hsien.
Images of the immortals can be found on many types of decorative objects from delicate embroidery and hand-crafted ceramics, through to the most intricate hand-carved ivory.
And the influence of Chinese design and production techniques will also feature in beautiful objects, made in our own region and held in our collection, as part of this fascinating exhibition.
