BID 3
Initially voted for and introduced in 2015 Wolverhampton BID, under the branding ‘Enjoy Wolverhampton BID’ delivers a diverse range of improvements in the city centre. The business vote was held to secure a further 5 year BID term. BID’s legally can last for up to 5 years, so the BID team and Directors are delighted to have received such strong support to continue and develop their services.
Results announced by Civica Election Services on Friday 25th October showed that 86% of those businesses who voted were in favour of the BID in number and 92% in favour by Rateable Value.
The vote gives the go-ahead for the Business Improvement District to deliver its projects and services as set out in its Business Plan for 2025 – 2030 and secures over £3 million of investment in the city centre over the next five years.
Cherry Shine, BID Managing Director said “We are overwhelmed by the fantastic support we have received from the city centre business community. They have been instrumental in shaping the BID’s plans for the next 5 years and we are delighted that we have such a strong green light to continue our work.
Plans for the next 5 year term include maintaining our strong mix of established projects such as our City Ambassador team, Night Guardians and an increase in the amount of CCTV surveillance hours we can deliver.
The city centre will continue to enjoy our annual programme of events, which as we speak is bringing footfall into the city centre through our Wolverhampton Monsters Trail.
The BID will continue and develop its city centre marketing activities to shine a light on the city centre and its businesses. The next five years will see us focus on attracting the new students we expect to see in the city from the College into our city businesses and strengthening our ties with the university and student union to bring footfall from their campus into the city centre.
We will be looking at ways to provide further support for our evening and night-time businesses, especially our hospitality sector.
We want to thank all of the businesses for showing their support through the ballot and look forward to working together over the next 5 years.”
The confidential, independently run postal ballot was held over 28 days from 27 September ending on 24 October. Organised by Civica Election Services the BID ballot papers were sent to all eligible voters in the City Centre BID area.
Detailed figures for the vote were as follows:
· Yes by Number: 86.3%
· Yes by Rateable Value: 92.6%
A majority in terms of votes cast and rateable value is legally required for a BID to be voted in.
