Street Stories Wolverhampton to launch in April 2024

Calling all local artists to get involved with a new paid community project ‘Street Stories Wolverhampton’ to launch in April 2024.

Enjoy Wolverhampton BID are working on a spectacular new vacant units community project called ’Street Stories’.

The concept has been designed to improve the appearance of empty shops with large-scale artwork installations across the city centre. To further enhance these pieces of art, there will be an interactive Augmented Reality (AR) twist and each piece of art will be brought to life as an immersive multi-sensory experience which will be triggered by a free downloadable smartphone app.

Enjoy Wolverhampton BID would like a mix of art styles and media exploring a variety of themes, so if you feel that you have a piece of artwork that could work with the brief, or alternatively would create a new piece of artwork/s, then please get in touch.

To create an exciting and interesting art trail, we would like to showcase a wide range of themes.

Some suggested topics to explore are:

  • Wolverhampton’s Strong Local History

  • The Environment

  • Wolverhampton’s Identity / Diversity and Community

  • Famous faces / stories

  • Human rights

  • Charities

  • Culture & society

  • Science & technology

  • Education

  • Crime

  • Arts & heritage

  • Film, theatre & television

As a gesture of goodwill, there is a £200 payment available for all successful artists, and your work will be featured prominently in the city centre, along with an artist’s profile, website details and social media handles.

As part of the campaign, Enjoy Wolverhampton will also be carrying out a significant PR campaign across a variety of local media channels. Please send all artwork submissions and project enquiries to info@wolverhamptonbid.co.uk by midnight on the 12th November 2023.

Please include your piece/s of artwork and a short explanation of how it could work to showcase a local story.

The project has received funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and will be delivered by Enjoy Wolverhampton BID. Enjoy Wolverhampton Business Improvement District (BID) is an organisation that represents more than 500 businesses across Wolverhampton city centre and aims to make a difference to our streets. By building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders across the town, we see Wolverhampton continuing to move in a positive direction through enhancements, events and by showcasing our city centre’s potential.

Our projects over our five-year term are targeted towards making Wolverhampton a better place to work, live and visit. We add value through business support, making the city cleaner and greener, plus delivering an annual programme of city centre marketing and events.

Street Stories is a creative and innovative project which will help to highlight commercial space, create an attractive environment and give residents and visitors an insight into Wolverhampton’s rich heritage and strong artist community.

The trail will launch at a critical time in the city’s ongoing economic recovery, and by moving visitors around the attraction it will further encourage footfall through the city centre.

“We’re very excited to be working with Arch Creative on Wolverhampton’s Street Stories. The project aims to shine a light on the talent of our local artists, encourage footfall into and around our city centre streets and at the same time highlight the investment potential of the available commercial premises.”
