Bleed Kit Training Event Equips Wolverhampton City Centre Businesses with Life-Saving Skills

The Change Makers Hub in Wolverhampton City Centre was the venue for a crucial ‘Bleed Kit Training’ event on Friday 19th July 2024, aimed at equipping local daytime and nighttime businesses along with several City Centre Partners with essential life-saving skills. Organised by Martine from the Daniel Baird Foundation, the training was delivered by Steve from the West Midlands Fire Service.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from a variety of local businesses, including pubs and restaurants, highlighting Wolverhampton BID’s commitment to enhancing public safety. Staff members in attendance were given hands-on training in the practical application of some of the items contained within bleed kits, which are essential lifesaving kits in the event of severe bleeding incidents.

Steve from the West Midlands Fire Service provided thorough demonstrations, showing attendees how to correctly apply dressings and use other pieces from the bleed kits. The training covered essential techniques to manage and control bleeding effectively, offering participants the confidence and knowledge to respond swiftly in emergencies.

Martyne Johnson, Brother of the late Tom Kirwin whose life was tragically lost in 2012 expressed her dedication to the cause, noting the importance of making bleed kits readily available in city centre locations. The foundation, named in memory of Daniel Baird focuses on fundraising to place these life-saving kits in strategic spots across Wolverhampton.

“This training is about empowering local businesses to act confidently and effectively in emergencies,” Martine explained. “By placing bleed kits in city centre locations and ensuring staff know how to use them, we can make a significant difference and potentially save lives.”

The initiative has been met with positive feedback from the business community. Participants appreciated the hands-on approach and the valuable skills they acquired during the session. Many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn how to use the bleed kits, recognising the potential impact of such knowledge in critical moments.

As Martyne continues her efforts to increase the availability of bleed kits, events like this training session play a vital role in building a safer, more prepared community. With the support of local businesses and organisations like the West Midlands Fire Service, Wolverhampton City Centre is taking proactive steps to enhance public safety and emergency preparedness.
